What This Calculator Does
When you send money abroad or convert currency, you rarely receive the full headline amount. Providers usually charge a flat transfer fee and then apply an exchange rate to whatever is left. This calculator shows exactly how much will land in the destination currency after both steps, so you can compare providers and avoid surprises.
How to Use It
Enter the amount you intend to send in your home currency, the transfer fee charged in that same currency, and the exchange rate being offered (the number of destination units you get per home unit). The calculator deducts the fee, applies the rate, and displays your net received amount along with a breakdown.
The Formula Explained
The math is simple but order matters: $$\text{Received} = \left(\text{Amount} - \text{Fee}\right) \times \text{Rate}$$ The fee is subtracted before conversion because most providers charge it in the sending currency. If a fee were charged on the receiving side instead, you would apply the rate first and subtract afterward.
Worked Example
Suppose you send 1,000 USD with a 5 USD fee at an exchange rate of 0.92 EUR per USD. After the fee you have 995 USD. Multiplying by 0.92 gives 915.40 EUR received: $$\left(1{,}000 - 5\right) \times 0.92 = 915.40 \text{ EUR}$$ If the rate improved to 0.95, you would receive 945.25 EUR instead — showing how sensitive the payout is to the rate.
FAQ
Does this include hidden margins? No. The "exchange rate" you enter should be the actual rate offered to you, which already reflects any markup over the mid-market rate.
What if the fee is bigger than the amount? The calculator floors the net amount at zero, so you cannot receive a negative payout.
Can I use it for any currency pair? Yes — it is a universal tool. Just be consistent: enter the amount and fee in the same sending currency, and the rate as destination units per sending unit.
