What Is the Dog Pregnancy Week Calculator?

Dogs have a relatively short and predictable pregnancy. Canine gestation lasts roughly 63 days — about nine weeks — measured from the day of mating or insemination. This calculator converts the number of days since the breeding date into a current week of pregnancy, so you know which developmental stage your dog has reached and how long is left until whelping.

Canine pregnancy spans roughly 9 weeks (about 63 days), grouped into early, middle and late stages.

How to Use It

Enter the breeding (mating) date and today's date. The tool counts the full days between them, divides by 7, and rounds down to give the completed week of pregnancy. It also shows total days elapsed, approximate days remaining until day 63, and the percentage of the pregnancy completed.

The Formula Explained

The core calculation is $$\text{Week} = \left\lfloor \frac{\text{today} - \text{breedingDate}}{7} \right\rfloor$$. Dividing days by 7 gives weeks; flooring it reports only completed weeks. Day 0–6 is week 0 (just bred), days 7–13 is week 1, and so on up to week 9 around the due date. Days remaining is simply 63 minus the days elapsed.

Worked Example

Suppose your dog was bred on March 1 and today is March 22. That is 21 days. \(21 \div 7 = 3\), so she is in week 3 of pregnancy. With a 63-day gestation, \(63 - 21 = 42\) days remain, and she is about 33% of the way through.

FAQ

How long are dogs pregnant? Typically 58–68 days, averaging about 63 days (9 weeks) from breeding.

When can I confirm pregnancy? A vet can often detect pregnancy by ultrasound around day 25–30, or by palpation around day 28.

Is this a substitute for a vet? No. This estimate uses the breeding date and an average gestation length. Always consult your veterinarian for accurate monitoring and care.
