What is the Land Area Calculator?
This calculator converts the dimensions of a rectangular plot of land — its length and width measured in feet — into its total area expressed in acres. It also reports the area in square feet and square meters so you can compare units at a glance. It is handy for buying or selling property, planning a garden or pasture, estimating fencing, or simply understanding how big a parcel really is.
How to use it
Enter the length of your plot in feet and the width in feet, then submit. The tool multiplies the two dimensions to get the total square footage and divides by 43,560 — the exact number of square feet in one acre — to give you the acreage. For non-rectangular lots, split the land into rectangles, compute each, and add the acreages together.
The formula explained
One acre is defined as 43,560 square feet (historically the area a yoke of oxen could plow in a day, equal to one chain by one furlong). So the conversion is simply:

Worked example
Suppose a rectangular lot measures 200 ft long by 200 ft wide. The area is \(200 \times 200 = 40{,}000\) square feet. Dividing by 43,560 gives $$40{,}000 \div 43560 \approx 0.9183 \text{ acres}$$ — just under one acre. In square meters that is \(40{,}000 \times 0.09290304 \approx 3{,}716.12 \text{ m}^2\).
