What This Calculator Does
CBD oil is increasingly used to support calm, comfort and mobility in dogs. Because cannabidiol is dosed by body weight, the right amount for a 5 kg terrier is very different from the dose for a 40 kg labrador. This calculator converts your dog's weight into an estimated CBD dose in milligrams, then translates that into the approximate number of drops to administer based on your product's strength. It is an educational tool — always confirm the plan with your veterinarian.
How to Use It
Enter your dog's weight and pick whether it is in kilograms or pounds. Choose a dosing level: Low (0.1 mg/kg) is a gentle starting point, Standard (0.2 mg/kg) is the common general-wellness rate, and Strong (0.5 mg/kg) is a higher dose sometimes used for discomfort. Finally, enter how many milligrams of CBD are in one drop of your oil — this is on the label (total mg ÷ total drops, often roughly 1 mg per drop for a 30 ml / 300 mg bottle). The calculator returns the total dose and the number of drops.
The Formula Explained
The math is two simple steps. First, weight in pounds is converted to kilograms by dividing by 2.20462. Then the dose is weight in kg × rate in mg/kg. The number of drops is the dose divided by the mg of CBD in a single drop.
$$\text{Drops} = \frac{\text{Weight (lb)}}{2.20462} \times \frac{\text{Strength (mg/kg)}}{\text{mg per Drop}}$$ $$\text{where}\quad \left\{ \begin{aligned} \text{Dose (mg)} &= \frac{\text{Weight (lb)}}{2.20462} \times \text{Strength (mg/kg)} \end{aligned} \right.$$
Worked Example
A 22 lb dog weighs about 9.98 kg. At the Standard rate of 0.2 mg/kg the dose is \(9.98 \times 0.2 \approx 2.0\) mg of CBD. If the oil contains 1 mg of CBD per drop, that is about 2 drops per serving.
$$\frac{22}{2.20462} \times \frac{0.2}{1} \approx 2 \text{ drops}$$FAQ
How often can I give CBD to my dog? Many owners dose once or twice daily; follow your vet's guidance and the product instructions.
Is more CBD better? No. Start low, observe your dog over several days, and increase gradually only if needed.
How do I find mg per drop? Divide the total CBD (mg) in the bottle by the total number of drops (a 30 ml dropper bottle holds roughly 600 drops).
