What Is a Glove Size Calculator?

A glove size calculator converts the circumference of your hand into a standard glove size. Most glove manufacturers base their sizing on the distance around the widest part of your palm. By measuring once and using this tool, you can confidently order gloves online or shop for work, sports, medical, fashion, or winter gloves without guessing.

How to Use It

Wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of your palm, just below the knuckles, with your hand relaxed and your fingers together but excluding the thumb. Enter that measurement and choose whether you measured in inches or centimeters. The calculator returns a numeric glove size (the inch measurement rounded to the nearest half size) plus a letter band from XS to XXL.

The Formula Explained

The numeric glove size equals your hand circumference in inches rounded to the nearest 0.5. If you measured in centimeters, the value is first converted to inches by dividing by 2.54.

$$\text{Glove Size} = \frac{\operatorname{round}\!\left(2 \times \text{Circumference (in)}\right)}{2}$$

For example, a palm measuring 22 cm equals about 8.66 inches, which rounds to a numeric size of 8.5. Letter sizes are assigned by band: under 7 in is XS, 7–8 in is S, 8–9 in is M, 9–10 in is L, 10–11 in is XL, and 11 in or more is XXL.

Worked Example

Suppose your hand circumference is 8.7 inches. Multiply by 2 to get 17.4, round to 17, then divide by 2 to get a numeric glove size of 8.5.

$$\text{Glove Size} = \frac{\operatorname{round}\!\left(2 \times 8.7\right)}{2} = \frac{\operatorname{round}(17.4)}{2} = \frac{17}{2} = 8.5$$

Because 8.7 falls in the 8–9 inch band, your letter size is M.

FAQ

Which hand should I measure? Measure your dominant hand (usually the larger one) for the best fit.

What if I'm between sizes? Size up for comfort and layering, or size down for a snug, precise fit such as cycling or batting gloves.

Is sizing the same for all brands? No—sizing varies slightly between manufacturers. Always check the brand's own size chart when available; this calculator gives a reliable general estimate.
