What is the Shoe Size Converter?
The Shoe Size Converter turns a measured foot length in centimeters into European (EU), US, and UK shoe sizes for men and women. It uses widely accepted Brannock-based linear relationships between foot length and sizing scales, which makes online and international shoe shopping far easier.
How to use it
Measure your longest foot from heel to the tip of your longest toe in centimeters (stand on a sheet of paper and mark both ends). Enter that length, pick Men or Women, and read off the EU, US, and UK equivalents. If you are between sizes, round up for comfort.
The formula explained
European sizing is based on the "Paris point" (two-thirds of a centimeter). We approximate it as \(\text{EU} = \text{foot\_cm} \times 1.5 + 2\). From the EU value we derive the others: for men, \(\text{US} = \text{EU} - 33\) and \(\text{UK} = \text{US} - 1\); for women, \(\text{US} = \text{EU} - 31.5\) and \(\text{UK} = \text{US} - 2\). These linear fits closely match standard conversion charts.
Worked example
A woman with a 24 cm foot: $$\text{EU} = 24 \times 1.5 + 2 = 38.$$ US women $$= 38 - 31.5 = 6.5.$$ UK $$= 6.5 - 2 = 4.5$$... but note conversion charts vary slightly by brand. Using the men reference for the same foot gives \(\text{US} = 38 - 33 = 5\) and \(\text{UK} = 4\).
FAQ
Why do sizes differ between brands? Lasts and fit philosophies vary, so always treat conversions as a starting point.
Should I measure both feet? Yes — most people have slightly different sized feet; use the larger measurement.
When should I size up? Measure at the end of the day when feet are largest, and allow ~0.5–1 cm of toe room.
