What is the Dress Size Calculator?
The Dress Size Calculator turns your body measurements into an approximate clothing size. Sizing varies enormously between brands and countries, so this tool gives you a reliable starting point in US, UK and EU sizing systems based primarily on your bust measurement, with waist and hip shown for reference.
How to use it
Choose whether you are entering measurements in inches or centimeters, then type your bust, waist and hip measurements. The calculator converts centimeters to inches automatically and maps your bust to the nearest standard size. Use a soft tape measure held snug but not tight, measuring the fullest part of your bust, the narrowest part of your waist, and the widest part of your hips.
The formula explained
US women's dress sizes increase roughly one inch of bust per size step. We use a base bust of 32 inches mapped to US size 0, then add two size numbers for each additional inch: $$\text{US} = 2 \times \operatorname{round}\!\left(\text{bust} - 32\right)$$ UK sizes typically run four numbers higher (\(\text{UK} = \text{US} + 4\)) and EU sizes about 32 higher (\(\text{EU} = \text{US} + 32\)).
Worked example
Suppose your bust measures 36 inches. Then \(\operatorname{round}(36 - 32) = 4\), so US size \(= 2 \times 4 = \mathbf{8}\). That corresponds to a UK size 12 and an EU size 40. A 38-inch bust would give \(\operatorname{round}(6) = 6\), US size 12, UK 16, EU 44.
FAQ
Is this exact? No — it is an estimate. Always check a brand's own size chart before buying, as vanity sizing and fit differ widely.
Which measurement matters most? For dresses the bust is the primary driver, but waist and hip matter for fitted styles, which is why we show them.
What if I'm between sizes? Size up for a comfortable fit, especially around the bust and hips.
