What this converter does
This tool converts a mass value between four avoirdupois-based units: gram (g), kilogram (kg), pound (lb) and ounce (oz). Its main focus is kilograms to pounds, but you can pick any unit for both "From" and "To". Because these are SI-based mass units, the conversions are identical everywhere in the world with no regional rules to worry about. Note that ounces and pounds here are avoirdupois, not troy units used for precious metals.

The formula explained
Every value is first normalized to kilograms using the kilograms-per-unit factor: 1 g = 0.001 kg, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg (exact), 1 oz = 0.028349523125 kg. The result is then divided by the target unit's factor. Combined into one step, the conversion factor is \(k_{\text{from}} / k_{\text{to}}\). For kilograms to pounds that factor is $$\frac{1}{0.45359237} = 2.20462262.$$
Worked example
Convert 1 kilogram to pounds. massKg = \(1 \times 1 = 1\) kg. factor = \(1 / 0.45359237 = 2.20462262\). So $$1\ \text{kg} = 2.20462262\ \text{lb}.$$ The breakdown is \(\lfloor 2.20462262 \rfloor = 2\) lb, and the remainder \(0.20462262\ \text{lb} \times 16 = 3.27\ \text{oz}\), giving "2 lb 3.27 oz".
FAQ
Is 1 kg exactly 2.2 lb? No. One kilogram is 2.20462262 pounds; 2.2 is just a rough estimate. For quick mental math, 2.205 is closer.
Avoirdupois or troy ounces? Avoirdupois (everyday) ounces and pounds. A troy ounce is heavier and is used for gold and silver, so do not mix systems.
What if From and To are the same unit? The factor is 1 and the value is simply echoed back unchanged.
