What Is the USMC PFT Calculator?
Applies to: United States Marine Corps. This tool estimates your Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (PFT) score based on the three test events: an upper-body exercise (pull-ups or push-ups), the forearm plank, and the 3-mile run. Scoring standards are scaled by age bracket and sex. The figures here follow the published USMC PFT scoring framework; always confirm against current official Marine Corps Order tables, as standards are periodically revised.
How to Use It
Choose your sex and enter your age. Select pull-ups or push-ups and enter your reps (note: choosing push-ups caps that event at 70 points, per Marine policy). Enter your plank time in minutes and seconds, then your 3-mile run time. The calculator scores each event from 0 to 100 (push-ups 0-70), sums them, and reports your classification.
The Formula Explained
Each event uses linear interpolation between a minimum passing standard (40 points) and a maximum standard (100 points): $$S = 40 + \frac{x - x_{\min}}{x_{\max} - x_{\min}} \times 60$$ Reps at or above max earn full points; the run is inverted because a faster time is better. The three rounded event scores add to a total out of 300. Class thresholds: 1st Class \(\ge 235\), 2nd Class \(\ge 200\), 3rd Class \(\ge 150\).
Worked Example
A 24-year-old male does 23 pull-ups (100), holds a 3:45 plank (100), and runs 3 miles in 18:00 (100). $$\text{Total} = 100 + 100 + 100 = 300$$ — a perfect 1st Class score.
FAQ
What's a passing PFT score? You need at least 40 points per event and a minimum total of 150 (3rd Class) to pass.
Do push-ups score the same as pull-ups? No. Marines who choose push-ups can earn a maximum of 70 points for that event, versus 100 for pull-ups.
Are these the official scores? This is a close estimate for planning. The Marine Corps publishes the authoritative tables; use them for the record.
