What This Calculator Does

The Monthly Salary to Hourly Wage Calculator converts a fixed monthly salary into an equivalent hourly rate. This is useful when comparing a salaried job offer to an hourly position, estimating freelance rates, or understanding what your time is actually worth per hour based on how many hours you work each week.

How to Use It

Enter your gross monthly salary and the number of hours you typically work each week. The calculator annualizes your salary by multiplying by 12, divides by the number of hours you work in a year (your weekly hours times 52 weeks), and returns your equivalent hourly wage. It also shows your annual salary, weekly pay, and total hours worked per year.

The Formula Explained

The core formula is:

$$\text{Hourly} = \frac{\text{Monthly Salary} \times 12}{\text{Weekly Hours} \times 52}$$

Multiplying the monthly salary by 12 gives the annual salary. Multiplying weekly hours by 52 gives the total hours worked in a year. Dividing one by the other yields the hourly rate. This assumes you are paid for 52 weeks and work the same hours each week — adjust your weekly hours input if you take unpaid time off.

Monthly pay is annualized (×12) then divided by total yearly working hours (weekly hours × 52).

Worked Example

Suppose you earn $4,000 per month and work 40 hours per week. Your annual salary is \($4{,}000 \times 12 = $48{,}000\). Your yearly hours are \(40 \times 52 = 2{,}080\). Your hourly wage is $$\$48{,}000 \div 2{,}080 \approx \$23.08 \text{ per hour}$$

FAQ

Does this include overtime or bonuses? No. It uses your base monthly salary and assumes consistent weekly hours. Add bonuses to your monthly figure if you want them included.

Why 52 weeks? A standard year has roughly 52 weeks. If you want to account for unpaid vacation, reduce the number of weeks by lowering your effective weekly hours or recalculating accordingly.

Is this gross or net pay? The calculation uses gross (pre-tax) figures. Your take-home hourly equivalent will be lower after taxes and deductions.
