What Is the Amount Saved Calculator?

The Amount Saved Calculator tells you exactly how much money a percentage-off discount puts back in your pocket. Whether you're eyeing a sale tag, a coupon code, or a clearance deal, this tool converts a "% off" promotion into a clear dollar figure and shows the final price you'll actually pay.

How to Use It

Enter the original price of the item and the discount percentage being offered. The calculator instantly returns the amount you save and the discounted final price. It works for any currency — just read the dollar sign as your local money.

The Formula Explained

The savings are calculated with a simple proportion:

$$\text{Saved} = \text{Price} \times \frac{\text{Discount}}{100}$$

The discount percent is divided by 100 to turn it into a decimal fraction, then multiplied by the price. Subtracting the savings from the original price gives the final price:

$$\text{Final} = \text{Price} - \text{Saved}$$

The amount saved is the discount percent applied to the original price.

Worked Example

Suppose a jacket costs $80 and is marked 30% off. The amount saved is

$$80 \times \frac{30}{100} = 80 \times 0.30 = \$24$$

The final price is

$$80 - 24 = \$56$$

So you pay $56 and keep $24.

FAQ

Does this include sales tax? No. The result is the pre-tax savings and price. Add any applicable tax to the final price separately.

Can I use it for stacked discounts? For a single percentage only. For two stacked discounts, apply this calculator twice — use the first final price as the second item's original price.

What if the discount is 100%? Then you save the full price and the final price is $0 — the item is free.
