What Is the Percentage to CGPA (10-Point) Calculator?

This tool converts an academic percentage into a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) on the 10-point scale. It uses the widely adopted CBSE conversion formula in which CGPA equals the percentage divided by 9.5. This convention is common in India (CBSE and many universities), so check your own institution's official scheme before relying on the result.

How to Use It

Enter your overall percentage (0–100) into the input box and the calculator instantly returns your equivalent CGPA out of 10. For example, students who report their marks as a percentage but need a CGPA for application forms can convert in one step.

The Formula Explained

The relationship is a simple linear conversion: $$\text{CGPA} = \frac{\text{Percentage (\%)}}{9.5}$$. The constant 9.5 comes from the CBSE practice of multiplying CGPA by 9.5 to estimate percentage; reversing that gives the division. A perfect 95% therefore maps to a 10.0 CGPA, the maximum on this scale.

Worked Example

Suppose your percentage is 85.5%. Dividing by 9.5 gives $$85.5 \div 9.5 = 9.0.$$ So an 85.5% corresponds to a CGPA of 9.0 on the 10-point scale.

FAQ

Why divide by 9.5? CBSE specifies that the approximate percentage equals \(\text{CGPA} \times 9.5\), so dividing the percentage by 9.5 recovers the CGPA.

Can CGPA exceed 10? Only if your percentage exceeds 95%. A 100% maps to about 10.53, but most scales cap CGPA at 10.

Is this formula universal? No. It reflects the CBSE/common Indian convention. Other boards or universities may use different multipliers, so verify with your institution.
