What This Calculator Does

The VinFast Full Charge Cost Calculator estimates how much it costs to charge your VinFast electric vehicle from its current battery level all the way to 100%. By combining your battery's usable capacity, the current state of charge, and the price you pay for electricity, it gives a quick, realistic estimate for home charging. This tool is currency-agnostic — simply enter your electricity rate in your own currency (for example USD, EUR, or VND per kWh) and the result is in that same unit.

How to Use It

Enter three values: your battery capacity in kWh (e.g. 82 kWh for a VinFast VF 8 Eco, or 87.7 kWh for a VF 9), the current charge level shown on your dashboard as a percentage, and your electricity rate per kWh. Press calculate to see both the energy required and the total cost.

The Formula Explained

The calculation is straightforward. First, the fraction of the battery that is empty is \(1 - \frac{\text{SoC}}{100}\). Multiplying this by the battery capacity gives the energy needed in kWh to reach full. Multiplying that energy by your electricity rate gives the cost:

$$\text{Cost} = \text{Battery} \times \left(1 - \frac{\text{SoC}}{100}\right) \times \text{Rate}$$

Note this is a simplified estimate that does not include charging losses, which typically add 10–15% in real life.

Battery bar showing charged portion and empty portion that must be filled
You only pay to fill the empty portion of the battery, from the current charge level up to 100%.

Worked Example

Suppose you have a VinFast VF 8 with an 82 kWh battery currently at 20% charge, and you pay 0.16 per kWh. The empty fraction is \(1 - 0.20 = 0.80\). Energy needed:

$$82 \times 0.80 = 65.6 \text{ kWh}$$

Cost:

$$65.6 \times 0.16 = 10.496$$

or about 10.50 for a full charge.

Three factors multiplied: battery size, charge needed, and rate giving total cost
The charge cost combines battery size, the share still empty, and your electricity rate.

FAQ

Does this include charging losses? No. Real charging is roughly 85–90% efficient, so your actual cost may be slightly higher than the estimate.

What rate should I enter? Use your off-peak or blended electricity rate from your utility bill, in your local currency per kWh.

Can I use this for public charging? Yes — just enter the per-kWh price charged by the station, though some networks bill per minute instead.
