What Is the Celsius to Fahrenheit Calculator?

This tool converts a temperature given in degrees Celsius (°C) into degrees Fahrenheit (°F). Celsius is the metric temperature scale used across most of the world, while Fahrenheit remains common in the United States. The conversion is a simple linear formula, making it instant and exact for any value you enter — from freezing winters to oven temperatures.

How to Use It

Enter the temperature in Celsius into the input box and the calculator returns the equivalent Fahrenheit reading. You can type whole numbers, decimals, or negative values (such as -40 °C). The result panel also restates your input and shows the formula used so you can verify the conversion at a glance.

The Formula Explained

The conversion uses $$\text{°F} = \text{°C} \times \frac{9}{5} + 32$$. The factor \(\frac{9}{5}\) (or \(1.8\)) scales the size of one Celsius degree to one Fahrenheit degree, because there are 100 Celsius degrees between water's freezing and boiling points but 180 Fahrenheit degrees over the same range. The +32 shifts the scale so that water freezes at 32 °F instead of 0 °C.

Two thermometers comparing Celsius and Fahrenheit scales aligned at freezing and boiling points
Celsius and Fahrenheit scales aligned: water freezes at 0°C/32°F and boils at 100°C/212°F.

Worked Example

Suppose the temperature is 37 °C (normal human body temperature). Multiply: \(37 \times \frac{9}{5} = 66.6\). Then add 32: \(66.6 + 32 = 98.6\). So 37 °C equals 98.6 °F.

Flowchart showing Celsius multiplied by 9/5 then plus 32 equals Fahrenheit
The conversion steps: multiply °C by 9/5, then add 32 to get °F.

FAQ

What is 0 °C in Fahrenheit? 0 °C equals 32 °F, the freezing point of water.

At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal? At -40 degrees: -40 °C is exactly -40 °F.

What is 100 °C in Fahrenheit? 100 °C, the boiling point of water at sea level, equals 212 °F.
