What is the Clomid Ovulation Calculator?
Clomid (clomiphene citrate) is a fertility medication that stimulates ovulation, usually taken for 5 days early in the menstrual cycle (commonly cycle days 3–7 or 5–9). For most people, ovulation occurs about 5 to 10 days after the last pill. This calculator projects your likely ovulation date and fertile window so you can time intercourse or monitoring to maximize the chance of conception. It is an estimate only and does not replace ultrasound monitoring or an ovulation predictor kit (OPK).
How to use it
Enter the date you took your last Clomid pill. Then set the estimated number of days from that pill to ovulation — the default is 7 days, but your clinic may suggest anywhere from 5 to 10. The calculator returns your projected ovulation date and a 7-day fertile window (3 days before through 3 days after ovulation).
The formula
The estimate is simply date arithmetic: Ovulation = Last Pill Date + N days, where N defaults to 7. The fertile window is then Ovulation − 3 days through Ovulation + 3 days, reflecting that sperm can survive several days and the egg is viable for about a day.
$$\text{Ovulation} = \text{Last Pill Date} + \text{Days After}$$
$$\text{Fertile Window} = \left[\,\text{Ovulation} - 3\text{ days},\; \text{Ovulation} + 3\text{ days}\,\right]$$
Worked example
If your last Clomid pill was on January 9, 2024 and you use the default of 7 days, ovulation is estimated at January 16, 2024. The fertile window runs from January 13 to January 19, 2024 — the best days to try to conceive.
$$\text{Ovulation} = \text{Jan 9, 2024} + 7\text{ days} = \text{Jan 16, 2024}$$
$$\text{Fertile Window} = \left[\,\text{Jan 13, 2024},\; \text{Jan 19, 2024}\,\right]$$
FAQ
How accurate is this? It is a rough projection. Ovulation timing varies; confirm with OPKs, basal body temperature, or clinic monitoring.
When should we have intercourse? Every 1–2 days throughout the fertile window, especially the 2–3 days before ovulation, is commonly advised.
What if I ovulate later? Increase the "days to ovulation" value (up to 10–14) to see a later projected window, and rely on OPK results for confirmation.
