What This Calculator Does
This tool estimates the net (out-the-door) price of a VinFast electric vehicle after applying the US federal EV tax credit and any state or local rebate. It is intended for buyers in the United States. Incentive eligibility, the federal clean-vehicle credit amount (up to $7,500 under IRS rules), and state rebate programs change over time and depend on factors like income, battery sourcing, and lease vs. purchase—so treat the result as a planning estimate, not tax advice.
How to Use It
Enter the vehicle's MSRP, the federal tax credit you expect to qualify for (commonly $0, $3,750, or $7,500), and your state rebate amount. The calculator subtracts both incentives from the MSRP to show your effective price, total incentives, and the percentage you save versus the sticker price.
The Formula Explained
The math is straightforward subtraction: $$\text{Net Price} = \max\left(0,\; \text{MSRP} - \text{Federal Credit} - \text{State Rebate}\right)$$. Total incentives are simply the federal credit plus the state rebate, and savings percentage divides those incentives by the MSRP: $$\text{Savings} = \frac{\text{Federal Credit} + \text{State Rebate}}{\text{MSRP}} \times 100\%$$ Net price is floored at $0 so very large incentives never produce a negative number.
Worked Example
Suppose a VinFast VF 8 has an MSRP of $45,000, you qualify for a $7,500 federal credit, and your state offers a $2,000 rebate. Total incentives are \(\$7{,}500 + \$2{,}000 = \$9{,}500\). Net price $$= \$45{,}000 - \$9{,}500 = \$35{,}500,$$ a savings of about 21.1% off MSRP.
FAQ
Does every VinFast model qualify for the full $7,500? Not necessarily. Federal credit amounts depend on assembly location, battery component rules, and your income. Many EVs qualify for leasing incentives even when purchase credits are limited.
Can the net price go below zero? No—this calculator caps the net price at $0 if incentives exceed the MSRP.
Does this include taxes, fees, or destination charges? No. It only nets out the credit and rebate against MSRP; sales tax, registration, and destination fees are not included.
