What is the Days Until Eid Calculator?
This tool tells you exactly how many days remain until Eid — whether you are counting down to Eid al-Fitr (which marks the end of Ramadan) or Eid al-Adha (the Festival of Sacrifice). Because the Islamic calendar is lunar, Eid dates shift by about 10–11 days earlier each Gregorian year and are often confirmed by moon sighting, so the calculator lets you enter the precise Eid date you are planning around.
How to use it
Enter today's date in the first field and the expected Eid date in the second field, then submit. The calculator returns the whole number of days remaining. If the Eid date is in the past, the result will be negative, which can be a handy way to count days since Eid.
The formula explained
The calculator converts both dates to a millisecond timestamp at midnight, subtracts today from the Eid date, and divides by the milliseconds in a single day (86,400,000 = 1000 × 60 × 60 × 24). The result is rounded up with a ceiling function so any partial day still counts as a full day remaining.
$$\text{Days} = \left\lceil \frac{\text{Eid Date} - \text{Today Date}}{1\ \text{day}} \right\rceil$$
Worked example
Suppose today is 1 January 2024 and Eid al-Fitr falls on 10 April 2024. The gap is 100 days. The calculator returns 100 days remaining. As each day passes, re-running the tool with the new "today" date counts the number down.
FAQ
Why might my Eid date differ from a friend's? Eid dates depend on local moon sighting and can vary by a day between countries and communities. Use the date confirmed by your local authority.
Does it count today? The result is the number of days from today up to the Eid date, so the day of Eid itself is the final day counted.
Can I count down to Eid al-Adha too? Yes — just enter the Eid al-Adha date in the Eid field. The calculator works for any target date.
