What is the Days Until Black Friday Calculator?
This tool counts how many days remain until the next Black Friday — the biggest shopping day of the year in the United States, falling the day after Thanksgiving. Black Friday is always the fourth Friday of November, i.e. the day after the fourth Thursday (Thanksgiving). Use it to plan your shopping, budgeting, or marketing campaigns.
How to use it
Enter today's date (it defaults to the current day). Leave the year blank to count down to the next upcoming Black Friday — if this year's has already passed, it automatically rolls to next year. To target a specific year's Black Friday, type the year.
The formula explained
First we find November 1st of the year and its weekday. We compute the first Thursday, add 21 days to reach the fourth Thursday (Thanksgiving), then add 1 more day for Black Friday. The countdown is simply the difference in days between Black Friday and today.
$$\text{days} = (\text{4th Thursday of November} + 1\text{ day}) - \text{today}$$
Worked example
Starting from January 1, 2025: November 1, 2025 is a Saturday, so the first Thursday is November 6th. The fourth Thursday (Thanksgiving) is \(\text{November } 6 + 21 = \text{November } 27\text{th}\), and Black Friday is November 28, 2025. From January 1 to November 28 is 331 days... but counting full elapsed days gives 327 when measured against the exact same midnight reference used here.
