What is the Days Until Labor Day Calculator?
This tool tells you exactly how many days remain until Labor Day in the United States. Labor Day is a US federal holiday observed on the first Monday of September. Enter any starting date and the calculator finds the next upcoming Labor Day and counts the days between.
How to use it
Pick the date you want to count from (today's date is the most common choice). The calculator determines the first Monday of September for that year. If Labor Day has already occurred in that year, it automatically rolls forward to the next year's Labor Day so the result is always a future date.
The formula
$$\text{Days} = \text{LaborDay} - \text{Count from date}$$
$$\begin{gathered} \text{Days} = \text{LaborDay} - \text{Count from date} \\[1.5em] \text{where}\quad \left\{ \begin{aligned} \text{LaborDay} &= \text{first Monday of September} \\ \text{Year} &= \text{year of } \text{Count from date} \;(\text{or }+1\text{ if passed}) \end{aligned} \right. \end{gathered}$$
target = first Monday of September of the relevant year; days = (target − from date) measured in whole days. The first Monday is found by taking September 1 and advancing to the nearest Monday.
Worked example
Suppose you count from September 2, 2025. Labor Day 2025 is Monday, September 1, 2025 — already in the past. So the calculator rolls to Labor Day 2026, which is Monday, September 7, 2026. The number of days from 2025-09-02 to 2026-09-07 is \(370 - 7 = 363\) days.
FAQ
When is Labor Day? It is always the first Monday of September in the US.
What if my date is Labor Day itself? The result counts to the next year's Labor Day, since the current one is no longer upcoming.
Does it apply outside the US? This tool uses the US federal Labor Day rule (first Monday of September). Many other countries observe Labour Day on May 1 instead.
