What This Calculator Does
This tool computes your total gross pay when your hours include a mix of regular time, overtime, and double-time. Overtime is commonly paid at 1.5 times your base hourly rate, while double-time is paid at 2 times the rate. Just enter your hourly rate and the number of hours in each category to see a full breakdown.
How to Use It
Enter your base hourly rate, then your regular hours, overtime hours (paid at 1.5x), and double-time hours (paid at 2x). The calculator returns your total gross pay along with a breakdown of each pay type and your total hours worked. Leave any field at zero if it does not apply to you.
The Formula Explained
Pay is calculated as: regular hours times the rate, plus overtime hours times the rate times 1.5, plus double-time hours times the rate times 2. Adding these together gives your total gross pay before taxes and deductions.
$$\text{Total Pay} = \text{Rate} \times \left( \text{Reg Hrs} + 1.5 \times \text{OT Hrs} + 2 \times \text{DT Hrs} \right)$$
Worked Example
Suppose you earn $20/hour and work 40 regular hours plus 5 overtime hours. Regular pay is \(40 \times \$20 = \$800\). Overtime pay is \(5 \times \$20 \times 1.5 = \$150\). Total gross pay is $950 over 45 total hours.
FAQ
Is overtime always 1.5x? In many places overtime is 1.5x the base rate, but rules vary by employer and jurisdiction. This calculator assumes 1.5x for overtime and 2x for double-time.
Does this include taxes? No. The result is gross pay before any taxes or deductions.
Can I use decimal hours? Yes, you can enter fractional hours such as 7.5.
