What this Ring Size Calculator does
This tool converts a single measurement — the inside circumference of your finger in millimetres — into a ring size for the United States, the United Kingdom, or Europe. You enter the circumference, choose your country, and it instantly returns the matching size so you can order rings online with confidence. It works for any region's sizing because all three scales are derived from the same physical measurement.
The inputs you provide
- Finger Circumference (mm) — the distance all the way around your finger, measured by wrapping a strip of paper or string around it and reading off the length in millimetres.
- Country — United States, United Kingdom, or Europe, which sets the sizing scale used for your result.
The formulas behind it
The calculator applies a different conversion for each region, based directly on circumference (C, in mm):
- US size = $$\text{US Size} = \frac{\text{Circumference (mm)} - 40}{2.5} + 3$$ rounded to the nearest half size and clamped between 3 and 13.
- UK size = \(\text{US size} - 0.5\), then converted to a letter (A–Z). Each whole letter step equals half a size.
- EU size = $$\text{EU Size} = 0.8925 \times \text{Circumference (mm)} - 18.5$$ rounded to a whole number (typically 44–76).
It also reports the inner diameter as \(\text{circumference} \div \pi\).
Worked example
Suppose your finger circumference is 54 mm and you select the United States.
- US size = $$\frac{54 - 40}{2.5} + 3 = 5.6 + 3 = 8.6,\ \text{rounded to } \mathbf{8.5}.$$
- UK size = \(8.6 - 0.5 = 8.1\), which maps to letter P.
- EU size = \(54 \times 0.8925 - 18.5 \approx 29.7\) → clamped/rounded to its valid range.
- Diameter = \(54 \div \pi \approx\) 17.2 mm.
FAQ
How do I measure my finger circumference accurately? Wrap a thin strip of paper or string snugly around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length with a ruler in millimetres. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are largest.
Why does the UK result show a letter? The UK ring system uses alphabetical sizes. The calculator converts the numeric UK size into the corresponding A–Z letter, where each whole letter represents half a size step.
What if my measurement falls outside the normal range? Results are clamped to typical jewellery ranges (US 3–13, EU 44–76). If you hit a limit, double-check your measurement, as a very small or large number often signals a measuring error.
